Even if you are not a Cycling UK member, you will be welcome on any ride that is within your capabilities and we will be happy to match you up with suitable rides. In general, you can ride for free on three rides before deciding whether to join Cycling UK.
County Boundary 200 mile ride 2018
Sat 7 July 2018 - 4:00pm to Sun 8 July 2018 - 4:00pm
A complete circuit of the Oxfordshire county boundary, taking about 24 hours. Pre-registration required as we need to keep the numbers quite limited.
We’ll start from Grove at 4pm and head clockwise. The route depends on the late-night food stops, but if we follow the 2013 way, we start along the Ridgeway spring-line, then head North into the Cotswolds. Hook Norton will be a landmark near the start of an up-and-down Northwest section around nightfall, eventually flattening out as we get to Banbury some time around midnight, which can be a bit surreal. We continue looping round the flatlands of Cherwell, and expect a misty dawn around Bicester. Then it’s out towards the Chilterns for another hilly section in the morning, before crawling back across the south of the county back to Grove.
Keeping fuelled is essential, so we’ll stop every 25 miles for refreshments – 7 stops in all! The pace will be ‘steady’ – similar to a Century ride. We need to keep covering distance, but this isn’t a speed trial, and it’s most important that we all keep going. Please talk to Steve or Robin if you want to come on this ride, we need to keep the numbers limited, and we need to make sure the riding distance, style and group will suit everyone and vice versa. But achieving this double-Century distance is a great feeling!
