Bicester Social Cycle Ride – September 2015

Sun 20 September 2015 - 10:00am

Bicester Leisure Centre, Queens Avenue, Bicester OX26 2NR

Our regular series of easy-paced 20-30 mile rides continues – starting from Bicester on the Third Sunday of each month.  We’ll have a coffee stop midway and aim to back in Bicester by 13:30.

There is normally a choice of longer and shorter routes to the coffee stop – one about 20 miles and one of 25-30 miles.

For those coming from afar, there is plenty of free car parking at the Leisure Centre.

Ride report

On an overcast but mild Sunday, a dozen riders of mixed abilities, including Richard and his wife on their tandem, headed north out of Bicester and into “Flora Thompson country”. Passing through the village of Fringford, and along the exotically named Featherbed Lane and Belgian Fields, the ride was soon in Buckinghamshire and heading at a moderate pace through some deserted country lanes towards the community run cafe & shop in Twyford village. With excellent facilities and fantastic coffee and cakes, this proved to be a popular stop. For the ride home the group split into two, with Mel leading a slightly faster group out to Charndon and Marsh Gibbon whilst Monica took the other riders directly home via Stratton Audley. By chance both rides came together on the outskirts of Bicester, which wasn’t planned but made for a fitting end to the ride.
