Farcycles Faringdon Sportive 21 July 2018

Wed, 23 May, 2018

Entries are now open for the 6th Farcycles Faringdon Sportive on Saturday 21st July.

There are 3 rides of different lengths to suit all levels of cyclist. Farcycles would like to encourage as many local people as possible to join in. If you are new to cycling or lapsed, then the Gentle Challenge – 35 miles of spectacular rolling Cotswold countryside – should be within your grasp. For those who cycle regularly, the Full Monty – 70 miles of even more breath-taking countryside will be a definite challenge. And for the serious cyclists, the Epic Test – 100miles with plenty of hills ofboth the Downs and the Cotswolds – is a challenging, rewarding day out.

The event is organised by the Farcycles, Faringdon’s cycling group, who aim to make it a most friendly, enjoyable occasion for everyone. The signposted routes are carefully chosen to use country lanes and avoid main roads, making the most of the beautiful countryside surrounding our town. There are food-stops along the way with quality home-made sustenance and refreshment, and a well-deserved lunch at the finish. Over the years, the event has become popular among cyclists of all abilities and is particularly enjoyed by families and younger cyclists.

So rise to the challenge, improve your fitness and health, shed some pounds, and generally feel better. If you need company and motivation then Farcycles offers regular cycling in groups. During the summer months, we meet every Sunday at 11am under the Old Town Hall in Faringdon Market Place for a gentle 10-15 miles on roads and tracks (suitable for hybrid-type bikes). On Saturdays all year round, there are road rides of 20-30 and 40-50 miles, starting at 9am in the same place. There is always a nominated rider in the groups who ensures no-one gets left behind.

With the funds raised from the sportive event, Farcycles aim to improve the local cycling environment and encourage participation, with projects such as safer cycling routes in and around Faringdon and cycle training for children.
