Isis Cyclists have run bike rides for women in Oxford since June 2008. Our aim is to encourage non-cyclists to get back on their bikes and commuters to enjoy leisure cycling – as a step towards health, having fun and meeting new people. Rides are led by experienced and knowledgeable members of Cycling UK and use the best of the city’s cycle paths and quiet lanes, heading towards greenery wherever possible.
Rides of a variety of lengths — from 5 to 30 miles — take place each month, from a variety of start locations. In addition to our regular short, mid-length and long rides, we also run ‘impromptus’ – such as evening jaunts, mixed socials (when you can bring male friends and family along), picnics, charity rides and longer rides which link up with the Oxford City Cycling UK group.
The rides programme is posted on our website along with useful tips about riding in a group. You can also join our mailing list, ask questions about the group, or join our Facebook group. There is no charge and rides are taken at a gentle pace to maintain group cohesion. Any bike will do as long as it’s roadworthy! Just pump up your tyres, and bring a drink and a spare inner tube (in case of a puncture which we can help to fix).
