Cycling UK Bicester

Bicester social ride 19 April 2015

Cycling UK Bicester is the new social cycling group for Bicester, formed in September 2015.

In 2015, we organised a series of 5 leisure rides over the spring and summer.  These were very popular, attracting a thriving community of leisure riders, who have now formed their own CTC Informal Member Group.  The rides continue, and are open to all.

1st Saturday of each month: A longer (but not faster) social ride, dependent on the season and the riders.  In the winter, this will be around 30 miles, and in spring it will gradually rise to 40 or 50 miles.  All rides will have a refreshment stop mid-way.

3rd Sunday of each month: Two social rides, one about 20 miles and one about 30 miles, both with a stop for coffee and cake – usually at the same venue.  Even if you haven’t done much cycling recently, 20 miles can be surprisingly easy to cover with good company and a refreshment stop half-way.  Both rides aim to be back in Bicester by about 2pm.

We occasionally run mid-week rides too.  Look at our website or follow the Facebook page for details.

All rides start from Bicester Leisure Centre at 10:00am (see link below for map).  Please arrive about 10 minutes before the start. Please see the Rides and Events list for rides details and rides reports.

We keep to a sociable pace, not a sporty one, about 10-12mph on the road.  Some hills are inevitable, but they will be kept to a few.  The rides will be led by experienced leaders, and follow Cycling UK guidelines to be safe and enjoyable for everyone.  Non-Cycling UK members are welcome to try out these rides as a taster for riding in a group.

The rides are supported by Bicester Millennium Cycling Club, Bicester Green and CycleLyn.
